Rajesh graduates

Das Rajesh of Saratoga was recently awarded a bachelor's degree at Colombia College's 248th graduation ceremony. Columbia University's two undergraduate schools, Columbia College and the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, awarded more than 2,500 degrees this year.

Chu wins award

Allan Chu, a Saratoga High School senior, has been awarded a $50,000 scholarship by the Davidson Institute for Talented Development. Chu was one of 17 fellows chosen for 2002.

He received the prestigious award for his invention, a dictionary-based universal lossless data compression algorithm (LZAC). His project was titled "LZAC Lossless Data Compression: A Novel Approach to Minimum Redundancy Coding."

Chu, along with the other winners, will be honored at a September ceremony held in Washington, D.C., where he will have the opportunity to meet members of Congress.

Zisko selected

Saratoga resident Allison Zisko was recently selected to participate in the Teach for America program.

Of 14,000 applicants, Zisko is one of 1,700 chosen for a position to teach under-resourced schools. She will join 120 other corps members in Phoenix, Ariz., to work with disadvantaged students for the next two years.

Zisko graduated from Boston College with a degree in economics.

Rose makes list

Anna Rose of Saratoga was recently named to the dean's list at Boston's Northeastern University. As a liberal arts major, Rose achieved the distinction by maintaining a GPA of 3.25 or higher.

Kozera a grad

Saratoga resident Dan Martin Kozera recently received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Washington State University.

Lit grad student

William Lawrenson Jr. of Saratoga has been accepted as an English literature graduate student at American University in Washington, D.C. Lawrenson graduated from Saratoga High School in 1995 and will be attending American University with a Merit Fellowship for the fall and spring semesters.
