It's a jungle out there on some of Saratoga's
neighborhood streets. The city council this
month approved two measures designed to cut
back on some of the wild behavior, but it
asked for more information before approving
two others.
The two items approved July 17 were the
installation of two stop signs at the
intersection of Hill Avenue and Montalvo
Road, as well as a red-painted no-parking
zone for about 120 feet along east-west
Farwell Avenue at the corner of Wild Oak Way.
The items scheduled for further review are
red-striping along Herriman Drive near El
Camino Rico between a residential property's
circular driveway and the same around the
corner of Tamworth and Seaton avenues.
The two stop signs will be installed on Hill
Avenue to indicate to drivers that Montalvo
Road traffic has the right of way at the
intersection. The cost for installation and
signage is about $500.
The Farwell Avenue no-parking zone will be
along a narrow stretch of the road and is
intended to prevent moving vehicles from
striking those parked on the road. The cost
is about $200.
The city council wasn't convinced, however,
that a red curb was necessary on Herriman
Drive, across from Saratoga High School. The
public safety commission had recommended the
action because it could improve the road
visibility for drivers leaving the property.
Council members wanted to know why it
wouldn't also be necessary to red-stripe
either side of the driveways to increase
visibility, and asked that the commission
provide it with additional information.
Similarly, the city council also wanted more
information about a no-parking zone around
Tamworth and Seaton avenues, across from
Foothill Elementary School, which neighbors
say is necessary to improve visibility around
the corner.
The items will be presented to the council by
commission chairwoman Brigitte Ballingall on Aug. 7.
