Rec department schedules trip
The Saratoga Recreation Department is now
taking reservations for a Sept. 29 all-day
trip to Sausalito for the annual self-guided
tour arranged by the Sausalito Floating Homes
Association. Approximately 20 houseboats will
open their doors to the public. The trip also
includes a hosted brunch with three entree
choices before the tour, and some free time
to shop in Sausalito after the tour.
The trip is open to people of all ages. Good
walking shoes are recommended. The cost is
$79 per person. For reservations, call
408.868.1248 or 408.868.1249.
Tai chi classes offer relaxation
As part of the many artistic, cultural and
wellness programs it offers to the community,
Saratoga's Hakone Gardens offers an ongoing
weekly class series on tai chi every Thursday
from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. The instructor is
Linda Scheer of San Jose, who has practiced
tai chi for 14 years and has been teaching
for six.
The classes, which are suitable for people of
all ages, are low-impact. The cost is $70 per
each eight-week series or $12 per class on a
drop-in basis. Hakone Gardens is located at
21000 Big Basin Way. To sign up, call Scheer
at 408.295.9439 or email her at linda@xs.com.
The show goes on at Montalvo event
This year's annual Summer Fundraising Gala at
Montalvo on Aug. 14 was set to feature
American music icon Diana Ross in concert in
the Montalvo Garden Theatre. However, Ross
has since canceled her 10-city North American
tour.
The gala will continue as scheduled, though,
and will include cocktails, a catered gourmet
dinner, a live auction and entertainment.
Proceeds support nonprofit Montalvo's many
community programs for children and adults,
including arts education and outreach,
performing arts, literary arts, visual arts
and artist residency.
Details on the revised gala entertainment
will be available Aug. 7. Ticket-holders can
arrange a refund through their original place
of purchase. For additional information, call
408.961.5858 or visit www.villamontalvo.org.
