| 'Eating Dis Order, Eating Dat Order' |

At Theatre on San Pedro Square, the current
offering, Eating Dis Order, Eating Dat
Order, might be called a work in progress
for a master chef in progress. One can almost
hear the sizzle and smell the aromas rising
from the stove of Chef Bobo Alaobo, a man
addicted to food and its preparation yet
racked with guilt about his obsession.
According to Gary De Mattei, who both wrote
the work and stars as Chef Bobo, the play is
a series of short sketches of a cable access
cooking show in progress. He says the theater
is taking the summer to workshop the
production and then remounting it for a run
in the fall, when, he says, several songs and
a character or two might be added.
Says De Mattei: "Chef Bobo fantasizes about
being the star of his own cooking show,
imagines himself the answer to the void that
will be left by Martha Stewart's [possible]
imprisonment."
The master chef interacts with members of the
audience as they watch the taping of seven
back-to-back cooking shows, including a
celebrity guest appearance in which anyone
can come up onstage and prepare the recipe of
their choice with the chef.
