School days

Back-to-school next week means buses, books and school bells. If you're wondering just when those bells will be ringing, school begins Aug. 28 for all schools but will not follow regular schedules. Kindergarten classes at Argonaut School will be in session from 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Foothill School's kindergarten runs from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and kindergarten at Saratoga School will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Grades 1-5 for all district schools will be on their Wednesday early dismissal schedule, with classes from 8:30 a.m. to 2:10 p.m.

Redwood Middle School will also have adjusted hours for the first day of school. Grade six orientation will be from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m., and grades seven and eight from 12:30 to 3:05 p.m.

Vaccinations

Students entering kindergarten and seventh grade must be vaccinated for specific contagious diseases before entering school.

As of July 1, 2001, all students must have one dose of the varicella (chickenpox) vaccine or have a preexisting immunity certificate. Out-of-state students entering grades 1-12 must also have this vaccination if they were not enrolled in a California school prior to July 1, 2001.

Children entering kindergarten must have four or more doses of DPT, three doses for polio, one dose of MMR and Hib, and three doses of hep B. Students entering seventh grade must have three doses of hep B and two of MMR.
