Tennis court gets aced
The plans to renovate Azule Park got a bit more streamlined Aug. 7, when the city council voted to not build a second tennis court and approved other means of cutting costs there.
The initial proposal for the park included two new tennis courts, the second of which city staff thought could possibly squeak in under the project's $880,000 budget limit. But cost estimates with the court grew above the limit, so the council gave the OK to move forward with a plan to just build one of the courts and thus save the city about $62,000.
The council also approved other cost cuts to bring the final cost estimate in line with the budget.
Added parking in downtown
The public now has 13 more parking spaces to use when it heads to Saratoga's downtown. The city council approved the spaces Aug. 7 and the public works department got them striped the following day.
The new spaces are located in the public parking lot on the west side of Big Basin Way, in the area near Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. Public works director John Cherbone said the area was able to accommodate both ingress and egress from the road as well as the new spots.
