Like the Concours D'Elegance from which it takes its name, the Concours d'HOPE will also be an elegant event that features vintage automobiles. Unlike its namesake, however, the Concours d'HOPE is a local gathering for more than just aficionados and drivers of classic cars.
The Sept. 7 gathering at the Zanardi estate in Los Gatos is also a fundraiser for The Foundation for HOPE, which provides resources and funding for HOPE Services, a nonprofit organization serving more than 2,000 developmentally delayed children and adults in the counties of Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito and San Mateo. It was previously known by the name HOPE Rehabilitation Services.
A highlight of the garden party-style affair, which runs from 4 to 8 p.m., is a display of 30 award-winning vintage cars from personal collections. Most of the cars are rarely available for public view, and many of them are limited editions or the last remaining models in existence.
Among the cars scheduled to appear are a 1937 Cadillac convertible V12; a 1932 Packard Deluxe 8 Convertible Berline featured in the Addams Family films and Quantum Leap television series; a 1958 Cadillac Woody; a 1931 Chrysler Roadster CG Lebaron; and a 1941 Cadillac Convertible.
In keeping with its elegant theme, the event also includes a martini bar, a humidor tent for cigar fans, live and silent auctions, live entertainment and an array of gourmet foods and wines.
Co-chairpersons of the event are Randi Zanardi and Helen Marchese Owen. Los Gatos residents Mary McCandless Schell, Helen Hodack, Anne Griffin and Cindi Mulloy are also serving in an organizing capacity for the event.
Tickets are $250 per person, with all proceeds benefiting HOPE Services, which provides its clients with job training and placement, professional counseling, developmental activities, a senior center, infant services, supported and independent living services and mobility training.
