Friends of library celebrate authors

The Friends of the Saratoga Libraries are again joining the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce during Celebrate Saratoga! by showcasing Saratoga residents of the past and present who have become successful authors or illustrators.

The Friends are soliciting the names of unsung authors or illustrators to be included in the ever-expanding Saratoga Authors' Hall of Fame. A roster was originally compiled in 1989 as the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries' contribution to the first Celebrate Saratoga! event. Since then, the Hall of Fame has grown from 60 to 125 names.

The exhibit, which includes a full list of authors and many of their books, will be on display Sept. 1421 at the Book-Go-Round, 14410 Oak St. The community is invited to stop by any afternoon to look at the exhibit. For more information about the Hall of Fame or on nominating an author or illustrator, call Chuck Page at 408.839.9555 or Mary Jeanne Fenn at 408.867.0564.

Photos and jewelry on display in gallery

Gallery Saratoga has installed a double exhibition during the month of September featuring photographer Luisa Tosi Claes and artisan Dori Urch Kark. Claes' contribution to the show, "Amazing Flowers," features large-format color close-ups of a variety of blooms. In "Encircling Hours," Kark displays jewelry she has created using fossils, leather, metals and stones ranging from the common to the semiprecious.

An artist's reception with refreshments takes place Sept. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. The public is welcome. Regular gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays through Sundays. Call 408.867.0458 or visit www.gallerysaratoga.com for more information.
