There simply couldn't be a more beautiful setting for a high school football game than Helm Field at Los Gatos High School. And it was on that field, with the lush Santa Cruz Mountains as a backdrop, where the Saratoga Falcons opened the 2002 season on Sept. 6. It was a warm Friday evening when Kurt Heinrich led his Falcons into battle against Capuchino in the season opener for each school.
The cheerleaders encouraged a spirited crowd, the deep tones of the public address announcer echoed through the bleachers and the smoke from the snack shack barbecue pit curled into the air, disappearing into the clear September sky ... the sights, the sounds and the smells of high school football were back for another season.

It's the way high school football was meant to be played—under the lights, on a Friday night, cheering on the hometown team.
Does it get any better than this? Well, yes it does—the Falcons defeated Capuchino 41-21.
And another high school football season begins for Saratoga.
