Baton club takes first
Members of the Campbell Valley Baton Club took first place in the recent National Baton Twirling Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Redwood Middle School students Stacey Tudor, 13, and Kathleen Roberts, 12, and Rolling Hills Middle School student Jennifer Chappell, 12, were part of a five-member team that also includes two Del Mar High School students. The group beat 10 other teams in its division.
Roberts also won three first-place trophies and Tudor won two first-place trophies in individual competition.
Chess team seeks members
Saratoga Union School District's chess team is currently seeking members.
The year-round program is competitive and meets every Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Redwood Middle School.

Volunteer program holding meetings
Amigos de las Americas, a public health education and youth leadership program serving countries in the Caribbean, Central and South America, will be holding two information sessions for potential volunteers for the summer of 2003.
The first meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, at Los Gatos High School, room 91. The second meeting is in the Liccardo Center of Bellarmine College Preparatory at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10. For further information, contact Margaret Laliberte at 408.867.2348.
