The funds raised would go toward trees, plants and picnic tables and benches.

The fundraising efforts could include a letter asking support from local businesses and organizations, a box at the park with flyers detailing the need and a "thermometer" sign at the park to show the fundraiser's progress.

Chamber could rent McWilliams House

The city council Sept. 18 agreed to initiate negotiations with the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce about its renting the city's McWilliams House, the Chamber's current location, at a market rate.

The council had told the Chamber earlier this year that it could continue to occupy the house for a nominal yearly fee only if it agreed to open its meetings to the public and permit council members to serve on its board and executive committee.

The Chamber refused to meet those requirements.

A new market-rate lease with the Chamber could be drawn up after representatives from the city meet with representatives from the Chamber, and that agreement would be brought for the council's approval as early as Oct. 2.

No representatives were present at the Sept. 18 council meeting, as the Chamber was engaged in preparations for Celebrate Saratoga!


Art in the Park this weekend

The city of Saratoga's recreation department and arts commission are sponsoring the Art in the Park event Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wildwood Park, on Fourth Street in downtown Saratoga.

Almost 30 Saratoga artists or those sponsored by a Saratoga gallery will have their work on display.
