Rowing program

The Los Gatos Rowing Club will hold a fall introduction to rowing session for high school students interested in learning more about the sport. The session begins Oct. 5, 9 a.m., at the Los Gatos Rowing Club Boathouse at the Lexington Reservoir, and no sign-ups are necessary.

The fall session runs through Dec. 8 with practices on three weekdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $150. Interested rowers must be able to swim.

Equipment grants

The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame (BASHOF) is accepting grant applications from youth organizations and schools interested in purchasing new sports equipment.

The BASHOF Youth Fund has provided nearly $2 million to more than 350 sports organizations in the 11 counties of the Bay Area since its inception in 1981.

Notre Dame golf

A golf tournament to benefit Notre Dame High School in San Jose will be held Oct. 7 at The Villages Golf and Country Club in San Jose. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at noon.

The entry fee of $195 includes lunch, golf, contests, auctions, a cocktail party, dinner and an awards ceremony.

Soccer competition

Lindsay Dickerson of Los Gatos has qualified for the Pepsi Dribble, Pass and Score National Finals, to be held Oct. 18­20 in Foxboro, Mass., in conjunction with the Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup championships.

Dickerson won the title in the girls 10­11 age group in competition hosted Sept. 7 by the San Jose Earthquakes at Spartan Stadium. She has competed in the event for four years and is making her second trip to the nationals.

The competition is open to boys and girls ages 6­14.


Education run

The Santa Clara Chiropractic Society will host the second annual Chiropractic Challenge on Oct. 6 at Vasona Park in Los Gatos. Events included will be a 5K walk/run, a 10K run and a kids' 1K fun run.

The race will benefit the Campbell Educational Foundation and Kentuckiana Children's Center.

Check-in and race-day registration begins at 7 a.m., with the first race to get underway at 8:30 a.m. The pre-race registration fee is $25 and the fee is $30 on race day. Participants will receive a commemorative long-sleeve T-shirt, refreshments, and entry into a raffle.
