Artists group will demo macramé

The Saratoga Contemporary Artists welcome local artist Irina Serbina at the monthly meeting on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. in the modular building at the Saratoga Senior Center. 'Laramie Project' at West Valley

The theater arts department at West Valley College in Saratoga presents The Laramie Project Thursdays through Sundays from Oct. 18 to 27 in the college's Chamber Theatre, located in building MU-12 on the campus at 14000 Fruitvale Ave.

Gallery Saratoga has new exhibit

Mary Parkerson Neumeister, one of Gallery Saratoga's newest member artists, is exhibiting now through Nov. 3 at the gallery, located at 14435-A Big Basin Way in the Saratoga Village.

Her exhibit, titled "Spontaneity, Color and Light," consists of still life oil paintings in which she uses color palettes and lighting techniques reminiscent of the Impressionist artist Paul Cézanne.

Johnston presents 'Bats of Belize'

Dr. Dave Johnston of Saratoga will offer a presentation on the bats of Belize, sponsored by the Santa Clara Audubon Society, on Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. at the Campbell Community Center. The talk is free and will be held in the Orchard City Hall, a 300-seat room in the Campbell Community Center, 1 West Campbell Ave. Refreshments will be served at 7:30 p.m.

Johnston has worked on many bat-related projects in the southwestern United States. He was executive director for the Youth Science Institute for many years and taught courses in biological science at both San José State University and San José City College. He currently teaches mammalogy and ecosystems of the San Francisco Bay Area at Santa Clara University.
