Library friends hold book sale

The Friends of the Saratoga Libraries will hold their annual paperback book sale on Oct. 26 and 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Saratoga Community Center, 19655 Allendale Ave. Fiction and nonfiction books will be on sale for 25 cents each on the first day. Celtic-fusion band plays at Montalvo

KILA, an up-and-coming band hailing from Dublin, Ireland, will be performing Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Montalvo's Carriage House Theater, 15400 Montalvo Road in Saratoga. KILA had its beginnings as a collective of Dublin street performers. Over the years, the members dubbed their sound "tribal Celtic," blending Gypsy, African, Eastern European and South American musical styles with their own Irish roots and Gaelic language.

The group's musical instruments are equally diverse, including fiddles, whistles, pipes, woodwinds, mandolins, guitars and several percussion instruments: Irish bodhrán, West African djembe, Armenian dumbek and South American congas. KILA has shared the stage with Irish musicians Sinead O'Connor and The Cranberries, the American singer Paul Simon and Latino singer Enrique Iglesias.
