Pompoms waved, shoulders shimmied and legs kicked up as 60 young cheerleaders in training from Foothill, Argonaut and Saratoga elementary schools performed with the Saratoga High School spirit squad for a halftime show during the varsity football game Oct. 4 at Los Gatos High School's Helm Field. The event was a first-year fundraising effort for the Saratoga High spirit team, which needed to raise money for busing and competition fees. Each camp attendee paid $50, which covered the performance gear of pompons and a T-shirt. Varsity spirit leader Keri Robinson (above) leads cheer campers through the routine they would perform at halftime (left). Proud parents (below) line the football field as the peewee spirit team performs during the varsity game. Due to the success of the camp, the squad will be holding two more camp and performance sessions during basketball season. A date has not yet been set for the additional cheer camps.
