Decision postponed on animal shelter

The city of Sunnyvale has decided to postpone making a decision on whether to participate in a regional animal control facility.

Sunnyvale wants to ask for another extension from a coalition of six other cities, including Saratoga and Los Gatos, having been granted a 30-day extension earlier this month.

Saratoga is funding $710,000 of the $6 million projected cost of a new facility for the Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority. Sunnyvale had agreed to chip in $2.6 million but is now considering partnering with the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley or the city of Palo Alto for a cheaper plan.

City commission approves setback

The Saratoga Planning Commission unanimously approved a proposed revision to an existing zone ordinance regarding side yard setback requirements for structures over 18 feet in height.

The amendment now stipulates that for lots that don't meet Saratoga's width standards, the previous minimum width requirements for interior side yards and exterior side yards now apply to first floors. An additional rule has been added, mandating that "the second floor setbacks for interior and exterior lots shall be increased an additional five feet."

Fire station plans are under fire

Plans for a new fire station to replace the existing structure on the corner of Saratoga Avenue and SaratogaLos Gatos Road will be reviewed by the Saratoga City Council at its Nov. 9 meeting, to be held at 7 p.m. at the Saratoga Civic Center.
