City council will make decisions

Saratogans, take note—one of the largest city council meetings will be held Nov. 6 at the civic center beginning at 7:30 p.m. Three longstanding issues will be broached for council decisions.

The council will vote on the revised building plans for the Saratoga fire station. Fire district officials will be present, along with their design firm, to present changes that reflect feedback obtained by the council from their previous rejection of the fire station building bid. Feedback will also be heard from the vocal Village Green Neighborhood Association, which is located behind the station and has held previous meetings with the fire station designers.

The council will also consider its agreements with the Chamber of Commerce, make a final decision on a vehicle and traffic ordinance amendment and decide the fate of Heritage Lane.

Volunteers needed for Vasona lights

The county is looking for volunteers to help out with the annual Fantasy of Lights event at Vasona Lake County Park. The display runs from Nov. 28 to Dec. 31, and the county needs volunteers to work from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

Volunteers will act as greeters, traffic controllers and security patrollers. Those interested can contact Chris Crockett at 408.846.5761 or email chris.crockett@mail.prk.co.santa-clara.ca.us. Proceeds from the Fantasy of Lights event fund countywide park programs and future park improvements.

College system to be discussed

The League of Women Voters of Southwest Santa Clara Valley will hold two meetings this week to learn about the California community college system. On Nov. 7 and Nov. 9, the league's California Community College Study Group will present the results of its study and a statewide study. The group will look specifically at the West ValleyMission Community College District.

There are 1.6 million students statewide who attend the 108 community colleges in California.

Both meetings are from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the homes of two Saratoga members. For more information, contact Barbara Lea at 408.564.4376.
