Council to discuss tree ordinance

One item on the city council's agenda for its Nov. 20 meeting has to do with Saratoga's tree ordinance. Tom Sullivan, director of community development, has proposed revisions to the ordinance in regards to the following non-comprehensive list: location and method of measuring tree size; establishment of a notice requirement to obtain a tree removal permit; tree pruning restrictions; establishment of a tree fund; and arborist reports and a tree preservation plan for development projects.

Library plans to film construction

The architect for Saratoga's new library will be on-site Nov. 20 to tour and document the ongoing construction project. The tour should last an hour, and the final film version will be edited down to 30 minutes. In addition to a look at the construction site, those involved with the film project hope to incorporate still photos of the library into the video.

When Assistant City Manager Lorie Tinfow first reported the project to the city council, Councilwoman Ann Waltonsmith suggested that the library consider working with the Historical Museum to have the video stored at the museum.

Gateway guidelines delayed to Dec. 11

The city's planning commission was set to hold a discussion of design guidelines for the Gateway district at its Nov. 13 meeting, but, citing a lack of attendance by members of the public, it decided to postpone further talks until its next meeting, on
Dec. 11.

Since a second hearing on the subject at the end of September, the commission has held several study sessions, where it has drafted discussion points on the guidelines.
