High school library hours are extended

I read the extremely well-written letter to the editor by one of our students last week regarding the new library at Saratoga High School. She and your readers should be very happy to learn that, effective Nov. 12, we began extending the hours of the library to 5:15 p.m. every day. Teachers are serving as proctors for this extra time. Many Saratogans have not yet seen our new library. I hope they will come by the school sometime and take a peek in and see this fantastic facility. By all accounts it is one of the finest facilities of its kind in the state. You can also see pictures on the school web site—www.saratogahigh.org.

We have so many energetic students who make this school their second home at all hours of the day. We owe these outstanding youngsters facilities worthy of their talents, and the chance to use these facilities!

In "New shiny, red fire engine for Saratoga" (Saratoga News, Nov. 20, 2002, pg. 9), the Saratoga Fire District's purchase of a four-wheel-drive marks the district's first patrol car, but it is not the first patrol car to service the city. The Santa Clara County Fire Department, which covers half of Saratoga, is already equipped with patrol cars.

In the Nov. 20 issue of the Saratoga News, the wrong phone number was given below a photograph of three local women involved in the nonprofit Volunteers Inspiring People (VIP) League. More information about the group is available by calling 408.335.1832. Additionally, two of the women's names were misspelled. Jeannette Barney and Jeanne Case are the correct spellings.
