Slain Red Bluff police officer was a Saratoga High graduate
By Mandy Major
In a tragic shooting, 31-year-old Red Bluff police officer David Mobilio was killed Nov. 19.

Mobilio was a 1990 graduate of Saratoga High School, where he was involved in football and ceramics and volunteered as a firefighter. The younger of two children, Mobilio still has family in Saratoga, although it is said that he had not visited the area frequently since his move to Red Bluff, located more than 130 miles north of Sacramento.

Saratoga High School Assistant Principal Karen Hyde was not surprised to find out that Mobilio had served as a police and D.A.R.E. officer for four years in Red Bluff's Tehama County. "He always wanted to be a cop," Hyde said. "He was just one of those people that always dreamed of being an officer." Hyde added that Mobilio was also "very community-minded."

Hyde commented that his death has caused a "tough time" at the school, which has since dedicated its marquee to his memory.

Mobilio is the second police officer and Saratoga High School graduate to be shot while on duty. Keith Konopasek, a 1981 Saratoga graduate who had served less than a year on the Oakland police force, was shot in 1995 while searching the car of his suspected assailant.

Mobilio was shot twice by an unknown person while refueling his patrol car during the middle of his 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift. He is survived by his wife, Linda, and an 18-month-old son.
