Girls soccer

Soccer training will begin soon for girls in the under-11 age group planning to play in the 2003 spring season. Jorge Espinoza, a soccer professional with more than 20 years of experience, will lead the training sessions, which will help girls develop skills to play at every level, from recreation to class 1. Rams need coach

Local teams vie for Christmas Cup

The Homestead Christmas Cup IX boys soccer tournament continues this week on area fields. Upcoming games include:

Dec. 4, 3:15 p.m.—Watsonville at Menlo Atherton; Dec. 5, 3 p.m.—Monta Vista at Leland.

Games Dec. 7 at Homestead include: 8:30 a.m.—Menlo Atherton-Prospect, Santa Clara-Los Gatos; 10:15 a.m.—Homestead-Live Oak, Sequoia-Independence; noon—Alisal-Los Altos, Woodside-Leigh; 1:45 p.m.—Leland-Salinas, Pioneer-Lynbrook; 3:30 p.m.—Saratoga-Gilroy, Monta Vista-Aptos.

Games Dec. 7 at Valley Christian include: 9 a.m.—Santa Cruz-Oak Grove; 11 a.m.—St. Francis-Watsonville; 1 p.m.—Valley Christian-Gunn; 3 p.m.—Harbor-Berkeley.

Games Dec. 7 at Mitty include: 1 p.m.—Seaside-Mitty; 3 p.m.—Palo Alto-Santa Teresa.

There are also games scheduled Dec. 9, 3:15 p.m., Oak Grove at Valley Christian, and Dec. 10, 3:15 p.m., St. Francis at Prospect.
