YSI gears up for its 'Starry Safari'

Star-gazers of all ages and experience levels are invited to the Youth Science Institute's Nature Center in Sanborn-Skyline County Park in Saratoga on Dec. 10 to participate in a 'Starry Safari' from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Led by YSI instructor Heather McFarland and amateur astronomer Ralph Libby, the event begins with a short discussion, followed by telescope observations of the winter night sky.

Cost is $5 per person. Children younger than 10 must be accompanied by an adult. For reservations, call 408.867.6940.


Saratoga resident stars in local play

Saratoga resident Gary A. De Mattei, one of the founders of San Jose's Theatre on San Pedro Square, is the writer and director of Eating Dis Order, Eating Dat Order, a comedic play that made its world premiere in November. De Mattei is also one of the actors. Subtitled A Deliciously Funny Play in Two Appetizing Acts, the comedy runs Wednesday to Sunday through Jan. 31 at 29 N. San Pedro St.

Eagle Scout honor ceremony planned

An Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony will be held Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church. The ceremony will honor four Boy Scouts from Troop 535 who have recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
