Saratoga's Cohen an ASU grad

Saratoga resident Danielle Cohen recently graduated from Arizona State University (ASU). Cohen received her bachelor's degree through the Katherine K. Herberger College of Fine Arts program in music education with an emphasis in choral music. Cohen served as the assistant director of the ASU Choir in 2002 and was also awarded the Louise Kerr Endowment Scholarship and Regents Scholarship in choral music.


High school speech and debate sweeps

Saratoga High School speech and debate team members have been busy competing—and winning—in national competitions. Cyrus Lohrasbpour made the varsity Lincoln-Douglas triple octas debate team at the Longhorn Invitational in Texas. Maya D'Costa took third place in the novice Lincoln-Douglas debate at the same invitational.

Speech contest winners included James Ballingall, Sherveen Salek and Mark Tran. Mitra Lohrasbpour won a wildcard in extemporaneous speech at the Menlo Tournament. Wildcard winners for state qualification tournaments included Christine Miller, David Lee and Andrew Suciu.


School district names officers

The Los Gatos­Saratoga Joint Union High School District has elected new officers for its board of trustees. Phil Nielsen was elected to serve as president, with Jackie Schmidt-Posner elected vice president. Ron Adolphson was selected as clerk and district Superintendent Cynthia Ranii as secretary.


Inverness essay contest 'All Ears'

Inverness Corporation, which produces fashion jewelry and ear piercing systems, is holding its third annual "Inverness is all ears contest." The nationwide contest asks students to answer the prompt, "Write about what you would tell someone special, famous or not, if you 'had their ear.' " Essays must be 150 words or less.
