Ann Fitzsimmons
Ann V. Fitzsimmons of Saratoga died Dec. 17 following a long battle with breast cancer. She was 78.
Born Jan. 20, 1924, in Detroit, Fitzsimmons grew up in Los Angeles and earned a bachelor's degree at UCLA in 1946. In 1950, she received her medical degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., where she also did her residency.
In 1957, Fitzsimmons settled in Saratoga and began a radiology practice in San Jose. After her 1985 retirement, she operated an antique store in Saratoga until several months before her death.
Fitzsimmons was known for her dedication to her family and for being reassuring, supporting, generous, optimistic and fair-minded. She enjoyed cooking, antiquing, telling family stories and talking about politics.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Joseph Fitzsimmons of Saratoga; children Patrick, Michael, Colleen, Kathleen and Maureen; grandchildren Michelle, Daniel, Jenny, Patrick, Michael and Jack; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services have been held, with interment at Madronia Cemetery. Donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1150 S. Bascom Ave., Suite 7-A, San Jose, 95128.
Robert H. Bitney
Saratoga resident Robert H. Bitney died Nov. 29 at the age of 79.
Bitney was born May 19, 1923, in Everett, Wash. A career truck driver, his last employer prior to retirement was Pinecone Lumber.
Survivors include wife Billie Bitney of Saratoga; son Brian Bitney; daughters Connie Bjork, Marilyn Anderson and Lorijean Spear; grandchildren John Bjork III, Lisa Bjork, Danielle Bitney, Doug Bitney, Robyn Davis, Meghan Davis, Audrey Bitney, Thomas Spear and Emma Spear; two great-grandchildren; brother Bill Bitney; and sister Marie Gruett.
Memorial services have been held.
