The Harlem Globetrotters will make their annual San Jose visit on Jan. 17, when they play a 7:30 p.m. game at the Compaq Center. The 'Trotters, recent inductees into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, will play a single game in San Jose before playing two games on Jan. 18 at the Oakland Coliseum (2 p.m. and 7 p.m.) and one on Jan. 20 at the Cow Palace (1 p.m.).

Softball sign-ups

Girls soccer

Soccer training will begin soon for girls in the under-11 age group planning to play in the 2003 spring season. Jorge Espinoza, a soccer professional with more than 20 years of experience, will lead the training sessions, which will help girls develop skills to play at every level from recreation to class 1. Sports grants

The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame (BASHOF) is accepting grant applications from youth organizations and schools interested in purchasing new sports equipment.

The BASHOF Youth Fund has provided nearly $2 million to more than 350 sports organizations in the 11 counties of the Bay Area since its inception in 1981.
