Foothill Club plans upcoming lectures
Dr. Leonard Shlain, a physician, author and lecturer, will give a presentation Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. at the Saratoga Foothill Club titled "Art and Physics, Parallel Visions in Space, Time and Light." He will explore how the romance of art has become integrated with the drama of science, and how art interprets the physical world while physics charts its unseen workings.
Using slides, Shlain will illustrate breakthroughs by classical Greek sculptors, Aristotle, Albert Einstein, Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns that have foreshadowed the discoveries of scientists.
There is still space available for the Foothill Club's Jan. 28 lecture by Dr. Carl Djerassi, a professor emeritus of chemistry at Stanford University, known as the "father of the birth control pill," who will share videos of his theatrical productions and discuss the interrelationship of science and theater.
The Saratoga Foothill Club Clubhouse is located at 20399 Park Place. Admission is $8; everyone is welcome. Call 408.354.2527 or 408.867.2361 for more information about the club.
