FOUND PROPERTY—Jan. 20 at 11:45 p.m. on Calle Montalvo Road. An unknown person placed an old computer monitor on a resident's front door step. The person rang the doorbell twice and then fled. The homeowner answered the door and then called the police. Officers were unable to locate a serial number on the monitor. The monitor was booked as evidence at the West Valley substation.
IDENTITY THEFT—Jan. 20 at 4:35 p.m. on Trinity Avenue. A woman received a call from a phone company informing her that someone had purchased three cellular phones using her name and Social Security number. The buyer attempted to purchase a fourth phone but was unsuccessful. The phone bills were opened in December 2002 and had an overdue balance. The woman had no knowledge of the phones or how anyone got her personal information.
RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION—Jan. 19 at 11:50 a.m. on Oak Place. A resident was in violation of a city ordinance by using an orbital sander on his property during prohibited construction hours. The resident was not aware of the ordinance and ceased further construction once notified.
DRUNK IN PUBLIC—Jan. 17 at 1:30 p.m. on Big Basin Way. A citizen reported a possible drunken person causing a disturbance in downtown Saratoga. The subject was walking in and out of traffic when the officer arrived. Upon contact, the subject was found to have slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. He was emitting a strong alcohol odor and was unable to stand up without help.
PETTY THEFT—Jan. 14 at 9:10 a.m. on Robin Way. An unknown person removed two no trespassing signs from the east fence border between two properties. The neighbors have a dispute about the fence line. One neighbor placed the signs to discourage the other from moving the fence. There is no evidence that connected the neighbor to the theft.
FALSE INFORMATION—Jan. 14 at 7:10 p.m. on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. A suspect went to a grocery store to purchase eight $50 gift cards and a plant. The suspect wrote out a personal check for $50 over the due amount for cash back. The clerk contacted the store manager, who learned through the store check department that the account had been closed. The store reported that eight of the suspect's previous checks had been blocked.
BURGLARY—Jan. 12 at 8:20 p.m. on Saratoga Avenue. An unknown person entered a residence by prying open a locked sliding glass door. Once inside, the perpetrator stole three full jewelry boxes from a bedroom and fled. The homeowner believes she was home at the time of the burglary and does not recall hearing any strange noises. The victim estimates her loss at over $2,000.
