Starbucks supports the community

Starbucks Coffee has begun the third year of its Grants for Giving Program, with a goal of supporting 10 nonprofit Bay Area organizations and charitable agencies by awarding various $50,000 and $25,000 grants for a grand total of $375,000.

Each grant recipient will be teamed up with a Starbucks employee who helps recruit and coordinate volunteers to support the organization. This year's grants will be awarded to nonprofits with programs, services or projects designed to build better futures for youths and families.

Application forms are available from all Bay Area Starbucks, including locations at 624 Blossom Hill Road in Los Gatos and 12960 N. Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road in Saratoga. The application deadline is Feb. 7. For more information, visit www.starbucks.com/grantsforgiving or call 866.535.GIVE.

WVC auditions for spring productions

Aspiring actors take note--the West Valley College theater arts department is holding auditions for two spring plays.

Auditions will be held Feb. 4 and 5 beginning at 7 p.m. for both productions. The Shakespearean comedy All's Well That Ends Well has roles for 10 men and eight women between the ages of 17 and 85, with several male roles available for women.

The Good Doctor , an adaptation of Anton Chekhov stories by Neil Simon, offers 10 male roles and eight female roles for those between 17 and 70 years old.

Callbacks will be on Feb. 6 and 7, with rehearsals beginning Feb. 10.
