The man whom sheriff's deputies caught in the act of breaking into a Saratoga woman's home has been formally charged with possessing a tool for an unlawful purpose and attempting burglary and attempting rape of the resident.
John Ng faces a Feb. 11 court date, where he is expected to enter a plea.
Ng, 52, was arrested Dec. 20, when deputies found him at the back door of the Cox Avenue house. According to a police report, Ng had with him handwritten instructions on note cards that led officers to believe he had planned to break into the house and rape the woman, who was a friend of his. Deputies also reported examining Ng's car and finding rope, duct tape, a bottle of bleach, a trash bag, a tube of KY jelly, handcuffs and liquor.
The victim told the Saratoga News that she believed Ng should be charged with attempted murder, but the district attorney's office has not brought that charge.
Ng, a Sunnyvale resident, is unmarried and unemployed.
Ng's arraignment occurred on Jan. 28. The Feb. 11 plea hearing is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. in the Santa Clara County Superior Court.
