Coaches honored
Current coaches Dean Honma of Cupertino and Rodney Carlson of Prospect and retired coaches Gary Brinck of Westmont and Lynn Dyche of Oak Grove were among those recognized by the Central Coast Section (CCS) at the end of the fall sports season.
Honma, a girls field hockey coach for the Pioneers, and Carlson, a girls volleyball coach for the Panthers, were among the winners of the 2002 CCS Fall Sports Honor Coaches Awards. Other honor coaches included Carlos Saldivar, James Lick cross country coach; Dan Navarro, Mountain View football coach; Ben Neveras, Yerba Buena girls tennis coach; and Deke Rowell, Los Altos boys water polo coach.

He led his Westmont basketball teams to seven league titles and two CCS championships while running up 403 victories over 38 years of coaching.
