Vineyards to host Valentine events

Couples should get ready to pamper their palates as two Saratoga vineyards invite guests to dine and sample wines.

Savannah-Chanelle Vineyards is hosting special Valentine's Day dinners Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. A four-course meal will be specially prepared and served with a selection of Savannah-Chanelle wines. The cost is $89 per person. Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling 408.741.2934. The vineyards are located at 23600 Congress Springs Road, Saratoga.

Cooper-Garrod Estate Vineyards will host a "Vineyard Valentine" weekend. Homemade brownies will accompany a sampling of selected estate winning wines, which include cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and claret. Sampling will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 8 and 9 at the vineyard, located at 22600 Mount Eden Road, Saratoga. For more information, call 408.867.7116.


George M! wants you to perform

Saratoga starlets in need of a spotlight should head down to the West Valley Light Opera Association to audition for George M! at the Saratoga Civic Theater.

Auditions will be held Feb. 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Feb. 16 from 7 to 10 p.m. Callbacks will follow on Feb. 17 and 18.

The show anticipates a 14-performance run, with rehearsals beginning April 13. There are lead and supporting roles for six females and three males. Fifteen to 20 minor roles for a singing and dancing ensemble will also be chosen.

Travel writer signs California book

The California Writers Club will be bringing Judy Babcock Wylie to sign copies of her new book, Best Places Destination: California Central Coast, Feb. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Harry's Hofbrau on the border of Saratoga and San Jose.

Wylie is the author of three travel books and is the editor of Travelers' Tales of Love and Romance: True Stories of Passion on the Road. She is also a featured columnist for Daily Herald papers, Mature Traveler magazine and travellady.com.

Harry's Hofbrau is located at 390 Saratoga Ave., San Jose. The cost is $14 for writers club members and $17 for nonmembers.
