Looking for a way to celebrate Hallmark's favorite holiday? Skip the chocolates this year and head down to the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts for an evening of passion, romance and oh yeah, music and dance with Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley. The company will perform Summerscape, choreographed by Artistic Director Dennis Nahat; the West Coast premiere of Miraculous Mandarin, choreographed by Flemming Flindt; and Agnes de Mille's western Cinderella story, Rodeo, Feb. 1316.
Nahat's Summerscape, complemented by a Dimitri Shostakovich score, celebrates summer romance to the music of his Concerto No. 2 and Opus 102.
Famed choreographer Flemming Flindt returns to San Jose with Miraculous Mandarin, set to a Béla Bartók score. Mandarin is full of drama, exposing the seedier side of passion, with greed, desire and violence. (See related story on the fourth page of this section.)
Rodeo, set in the American West, is sure to warm the heart with a classic Cinderella tale and an Aaron Copeland score.
