Schools to discuss budget cut plan

The Los Gatos­Saratoga Union High School District Board of Trustees will meet on March 4 to discuss their tentative budget cuts for 2003-04, which includes teacher layoffs at both schools. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in the Saratoga High School library.

The District Teachers Association plans to meet with district staff beforehand to negotiate an "alternate" plan that would require the elimination of fewer positions. The meeting is scheduled for Feb. 26, 6:30 p.m., also in the Saratoga High library. Both events are open to the public.


Redwood holds parents meeting

Parents of all fifth-grade students in the Saratoga Union School District are invited to a parent orientation meeting on March 6 at 7 p.m. The event includes discussions on school construction, curriculum, communication, middle school and preparing students for Redwood.

The evening takes place at the cafeteria. Parents can park in the front lots or on the lower blacktop on Allendale.


Argonaut salutes Principal Brooks

Principal Appreciation Week is March 3­7, and Argonaut Elementary School plans to salute Principal Sue Brooks with a luncheon on March 7. For more information, call the school at 408.867.4773.


Arts conference for area teachers

Montalvo will host a free conference on March 7 for middle and elementary school teachers called "The Arts in Your Classroom." The event is jointly conducted by Montalvo, the Santa Clara County Office of Education and Cultural Initiatives Silicon Valley.

The day begins at 9 a.m. with a talk by Colleen Wilcox, Santa Clara County superintendent of schools, and a keynote speech by Eric Booth, an actor, author and educator. After a day of workshops and demonstrations, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell will speak at the closing reception.
