John Russ
John Cooke Russ died of cancer in South Burlington, Vt. on Feb. 5. He was 91.
Born Aug. 28, 1912, in Hartford, Conn., Russ was a 1935 graduate of Yale University. The following year he married Sylvia Carpenter.
Russ worked as an electrical and nuclear safety engineer for General Electric in Massachusetts and then in San Jose. The couple resided in Saratoga from 1962 to 1991, the year his wife died. Russ continued to live alone in Saratoga until 1997, then moved to Vermont. While in Saratoga, Russ was very active in the Saratoga Federated Church.
Survivors include son Jim Russ and daughters Ann Lee, Frederica Jones, Peggy Varney, Connie Medak and Trudy Russ; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Russ also leaves two "honorary" children, Ulf Stolzke of Germany and Tammy Greer of San Jose.
