As the need for nurses increases and the number of people entering the field declines, the country is facing a nursing shortage like never before. Nurses at local hospitals say that the grueling shifts and mandatory overtime common in the profession can lead to burnout, which leads to mistakes that threaten patients' safety. And many are wondering aloud what it will take to remedy the situation before it reaches the crisis point.
