Dwindling number of nurses raises concern

As the need for nurses increases and the number of people entering the field declines, the country is facing a nursing shortage like never before. Nurses at local hospitals say that the grueling shifts and mandatory overtime common in the profession can lead to burnout, which leads to mistakes that threaten patients' safety. And many are wondering aloud what it will take to remedy the situation before it reaches the crisis point.  More

School budget cuts Redwood Middle School Meeting about school cuts
The state may not announce next year's budget for another few months, but the Saratoga Union School District must make some funding decisions based on those unknown figures next week.  More Saratoga Union School District officials are planning a new loading zone for Redwood Middle School to help alleviate traffic congestion caused by parents picking up and dropping off students.  More A large group of teachers, parents and Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District officials came together recently to discuss staff layoffs, the loss of millions in state funding and a potential parcel tax election.  More

With the possible opening of a new wine shop on Big Basin Way, Saratoga residents may soon have a place to enjoy the nightlife in the downtown area.  More The Rotary Club of Saratoga has made it its mission to eradicate polio worldwide—and their goal is to raise $18,000 by June for the necessary vaccinations.  More Mama's Bakery of Los Gatos has just been certified kosher, and just in time for the important Jewish holiday of Purim.  More
