Saratogans earn Wake Forest honors

Wake Forest University in North Carolina included two Saratoga residents on its fall dean's list, for students with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Nick Blue, a senior at Wake Forest majoring in communications, was an athletic standout at Saratoga High School and plays for the university's baseball team. Rachael Elizabeth Carney, a senior majoring in psychology, is active in the equestrian club and in the sorority Pi Beta Phi.

Wake Forest is a private university in Winston-Salem with an enrollment of approximately 4,000.


Lions Club offers two scholarships

The Saratoga Lions Club is looking for high school seniors who live in Saratoga to apply for its two $1,000 scholarships. Applications, which are due by April 9, can be obtained by writing to the Saratoga Lions Club Scholarship Coordinator, P.O. Box 101, Saratoga, 95071.

A committee of Lions Club members will select the students based on scholarship, citizenship, service and accomplishments.


Saratoga grad on college dean's list

Thomas Mace, a 1999 graduate of Saratoga High School, was named to the fall semester dean's list at Colby College. Mace is majoring in computer science and minoring in classical civilization. He is a senior at the Maine undergraduate institution.

Mace's mother is Betsy Burgess of Los Gatos.


Competition set for student artists

Santa Clara County student artists, writers, photographers, dancers and musicians are encouraged to enter the 2003 Olympiad of the Arts, a regional competition sponsored by the West Valley/Mission Colleges Foundation. With varying entry requirements and entry dates, the Olympiad has categories for high school, community college and lower division college students. Winners will be honored with a monetary award and a May 4 reception at the Saratoga Rotary Art Show.
