| A Mardi Gras theme provided the atmosphere for "Evening in the French Quarter," the March 8 fundraiser put on by the Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley Council. Some 350 supporters attended, netting more than $100,000 to benefit Ballet and Symphony San Jose Silicon Valley. The event, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz USA and Beshoff Motor Cars, took place at the San Jose Fairmont.

| Kathy Hull Gisvold and her husband, Bill, opened their Los Gatos home March 7 to raise funds for the Women's Sports Foundation. Kathy's daughter, Megan Hull, participated in a lawsuit in which the Brown University women's volleyball team challenged the school, which had dropped the team. The suit, settled in 1998, led to sweeping changes in the way antidiscrimination laws are applied to college sports under Title IX. Proposed changes in Title IX prompted the fundraiser. |
