Trail task force discusses issues

At the city council meeting on April 2 the Gardiner Park/Wildcat Creek Trail Task force will be presenting an informational status report on issues regarding the closure and possible reopening of the trail connecting Gardiner Park to Springhill Court.

The task force will be discussing options, including taking down fences and entering a joint-use agreement with the Santa Clara Valley Water District, which owns the park. In August 2002, the water district closed the trail due to a privacy and safety complaint made by a neighbor. Residents opposed the closure and requested that the trail be reopened.

The task force held several public meetings in which residents were encouraged to give their input. For further information, contact Cary Bloomquist at 408.868.1258.

Bookbrowse.com founder at library

The Friends of the Saratoga Libraries is inviting residents to meet and greet entrepreneur Davina Morgan-Witts at the Immanuel Lutheran Church on April 7 at 7 p.m. Morgan-Witts started Bookbrowse.com, which is an Internet site designed for busy book enthusiasts looking for information about best-sellers, authors and links to book groups. The Saratoga resident will talk about how and why she started her business, in addition to books she recommends. For more information, call 408.867.9571.

Commission seeks interested youths

The Saratoga Youth Commission is looking for residents to replace six of the youth commissioners who will be finishing their term at the end of July. Interested applicants must live in Saratoga and be a student in the seventh through 12th grade during the 200304 school year. Each applicant must attend at least one youth commission meeting from April 8 through May 13 prior to the interviewing process.

The commission was established in 1988 to give teenagers a chance to voice issues affecting youths in the community and to get involved with leadership and recreational activities. Those interested must pick up an application at city hall on Fruitvale Avenue. For more information, contact the city clerk at 408.868.1269.
