Carl Cookson, a longtime San Jose Symphony board member, and his wife, Sharron, opened their home March 20 to supporters of symphonic music for a recital, cocktail party and discussion of the ongoing findings of the Symphonic Working Group examining problems that led to the symphony's demise and options for serving the symphonic music community. The evening also served to introduce the recently formed Symphony San Jose Silicon Valley.

Bellarmine's annual auction

Bellarmine College Preparatory welcomed some 650 guests to its 27th annual dinner and auction March 15. Highlight of the evening: Arnold and Mary Ellen Bruni no sooner finished opening the treasure chest filled with trip packages and surprises than they heard their names called as winners of the $20,000 raffle—$10,000 of which they donated back to Bellarmine and the other $10,000 to Notre Dame High School, their alma maters.
