Opera San José wraps up its 19th season with The Magic Flute, a longtime favorite of opera enthusiasts and an approachable story for any opera newbie.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's fantasy, The Magic Flute, found immediate success in 1791, showing off the composer's varied talent with everything from arias to folk songs. Combining romance, mystery, comedy and adventure, the story follows a brave prince—with the quintessential sidekick providing comedic relief—on an adventure to free a beautiful princess from an evil sorcerer.
Sung in German, the opera will be accompanied by English titles; dialogue will also be in English. The Magic Flute is scheduled for April 12 through May 4 at the intimate 500-seat Montgomery Theater, located at Market and San Carlos streets in downtown San Jose.
Tickets are $40 to $58. Call the Opera San José box office at 408.437.4450 or visit www.operasj.org for more information.
