Seven-year-old makes a pitch to the mayor for bicycle path
By My Ngo
A little boy with a big heart and an ambitious drive has an important issue he wants the public to address—and he's already made the first major step in getting his voice heard.

Seven-year-old Noah Djenuerian, who lives on Sevilla Lane in Saratoga, wrote a letter to Mayor Nick Streit on Feb. 25 expressing his concern about pedestrian safety in his neighborhood. In the letter, which took approximately 20 minutes to write, Noah politely requested that Streit consider adding bike lanes or sidewalks to the streets in his neighborhood so that he and other children can safely ride their bikes without worrying about cars passing—and sometimes speeding—by.

Noah's mother, Norian, said she was impressed that her son followed through with his plan and is proud of his efforts.

"When Noah first talked about writing the letter, he asked me, 'Who's in charge of the rules?' " said Norian. "I thought it was another one of his crazy ideas. I didn't think he would go this far."

Norian said she would not let her three sons, ages 6, 7 and 9, ride their bikes in the neighborhood even under her supervision because the streets have sharp curves and blind spots, which makes it difficult for cars and pedestrians to see in the distance. She said she would feel more comfortable if the street had a designated bike path. In addition, Norian said she's caught many cars speeding along the street, especially around 5 p.m., when parents and teenagers are coming home from work and school.

Noah said he would even like to go further and present the issue to the city's public safety commission.
