Paper dolls for art enthusiasts

Jeanne Tillman has a new show, "If The Spirit Moves You," at the Aegis Gallery of Fine Art in Saratoga. Tillman combines handmade paper, cloth, silk paper and natural substances such as lichen and palm fronds to create freestanding dolls.

Tillman says her new works, "Spirits," are inspired by three different sources. Statues of the infant Jesus of Prague, dressed in frills and lace, were important in her work, as well as the wooden American Indian Kachina dolls, decorated in bright colors, leather and feathers, and Japanese kimono fabrics and obi styles.

Her work will be on display through April 27. The gallery is located at 14531 Big Basin Way and is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. For more information, visit http://www.aegisgallery.com or call 408.867.0171.
