Attempted rape suspect in court

John Ng, who has been charged with using a tool for an unlawful purpose, attempted burglary and attempted rape of a Saratoga resident, is scheduled for a preliminary trial on April 25. Ng, 52, was arrested in December after sheriff's deputies caught him in the act of prying open the back door to a Cox Avenue home. Items found on his person and in his car led authorities to believe that Ng was planning to rape the woman who lived at the home. The Sunnyvale resident entered a plea of not guilty on Feb. 11; his April 25 court date is scheduled for 1:34 p.m. at Dept. 23 of the county courthouse.

Event will honor war veterans

Saratoga's annual Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled for May 26 and will begin with the placing of a wreath at the Memorial Arch on SaratogaLos Gatos Road at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony will continue at 10 a.m. at Madronia Cemetery on Oak Street, where guest speaker Col. James T. Williams, commander of the 129th Rescue Wing of the Air National Guard at Moffett Federal Airfield, will lead in honoring war veterans.

Various organizations will be present, including the Saratoga High School band and chorus, the 4-H Club, and members of the Girl and Boy Scouts.

Laurel sprays and American flags will be placed on the graves of each veteran. There are 740 veterans from as far back as the Civil War buried at the cemetery. The community event is coordinated and sponsored by the Saratoga Foothill Club.

Foundation hosts play about Brown
