Up, Up and Away!!!

Saratoga Elementary School students and teachers were entertained by a real-life lesson in energy and hot-air balloons as Wyoming-based Air Fair Balloon Company lifted off on the school's green field. Teachers (from left) Robin Cohn, Nicolette Lance and Nicolle Wang were among those who jumped aboard for a short float high above the trees. Experts spent the morning showing children how to inflate, use and deflate the balloon; in response, students gasped in wonder, cheered, clapped and jumped up and down. Adults also caught the spirit, with neighbors peering over their back fences into the field. According to Principal Marybarbara Zorio, the lesson was not only fun but also academic—assemblies were held later in the day that taught theories of energy, hot air and the process of flight.
