Ng to stand trial for burglary and attempted rape
By Gloria I. Wang
After hearing testimony from a Saratoga woman and law enforcement officials, a judge has ruled that a Sunnyvale man will go on trial for burglary and attempted rape charges.

John Ng was scheduled for an arraignment May 5 and is expected to have a trial set for four weeks from now.

Ng, 52, was arrested in December after sheriff's deputies caught him in the act of prying open the door of a Cox Avenue home. The resident was a female friend of his. Officers found on Ng and in his car items and handwritten instructions on notecards that led them to believe that he planned on breaking into the house and raping the woman.

Ng was originally charged with possession of a tool for an unlawful purpose, attempted burglary and attempted rape, but the charges have been changed from attempted to actual burglary, said Matt Braker, a Santa Clara County deputy district attorney. "The facts showed that a completed burglary had occurred."

The revised charges combined carry a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.

Ng is not known to have been involved with other, similar incidents, Braker said.
