Rotary gives PAL
center $25,000
The Saratoga Rotary Charitable Foundation has given Saratoga High School $25,000 for the school's Performing Arts and Lecture Center project. According to the Saratoga Rotary Club, the donation is the largest in the club's history and came from the annual Saratoga Rotary Art Show.
The gift, awarded April 25, brings the school one step closer to meeting its goal of raising $6.5 million to start construction this summer. To keep its current lowest contractor's bid, the school must make up a $1.6 million shortfall by June 6. So far $725,000 has been raised. Commission seeks
interested youth
The Saratoga Youth Commission is looking for residents to replace six of the youth commissioners who will be finishing their term at the end of July. Interested applicants must live in Saratoga and be a student in the seventh through 12th grade during the 200304 school year. Each applicant must attend at least one youth commission meeting from April 8 through May 13 prior to the interviewing process.
The commission was established in 1988 to give teenagers a chance to voice issues affecting youths in the community and to get involved with leadership and recreational activities. Those interested must pick up an application at city hall on Fruitvale Avenue. All applications must be completed and returned by May 16 at 5 p.m. For more information, contact the city clerk at 408.868.1269.
Temporary library
prepares for move
The temporary library on Saratoga Avenue will be closing for good on May 18. All materials will be transferred to the newly rebuilt library, which is scheduled to open in mid-June. There will not be any book return services in the interim. Patrons are encouraged to return checked-out materials when the library opens to the public. Reference librarians will assist in changing the pickup location of library materials placed on hold and in placing them on inactive status up until closing day. For more information, contact Peggy Baker at 408.867.6126.
