A retirement party for superintendent

The community will fête outgoing Saratoga Union School District Superintendent Mary Gardner on May 30. Refreshments and speeches in honor of the retiring superintendent will be part of the program. Those who have worked with Gardner, school alumni and anyone else in the community are invited to attend the party. The event is from 4 to 7 p.m. at Nestldown, in the Santa Cruz Mountains. District deadline for new students

Parents of children already enrolled in Saratoga Union School District schools are encouraged to register beginning siblings before this Friday, in time for a May 23 placement lottery. All other registration received after that date will be assigned to schools on a space-available basis. Registration packets for grades K­8 are at the district office, 20460 Forrest Hills Drive; packets for kindergarten and first grade are at each elementary school. Imagination team heads to Knoxville

Rolling Hills Middle School's Destination Imagination team is going to the Destination Imagination global finals May 21­25. The team, which includes seventh-grade Saratoga residents Kelly Langstaff and Lauren Crow, will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to take part in global finals. The students won in their category of improv in the state competition last month and now will represent the Silicon Valley in the global version, which will include more than 800 other teams. Team manager Kerry Langstaff says the five girls are looking for donations to offset the expenses of approximately $1,200 each. She can be reached at klangstaff@earthlink.net.


Lynbrook graduate on fall dean's list

Johns Hopkins University senior Raymond Chai, a Saratoga resident, was named to the school's fall 2002 semester dean's list. Chai, who is majoring in biology, graduated from Lynbrook High School and is the son of Tom and Carol Chai. He earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher to receive the dean's list honor.
