Ceramics teachers find art in work and marriage

Though it wasn't intentional, Leah Aguayo, the ceramics teacher at Saratoga High School, and her husband, Ralph, the Los Gatos High ceramics teacher, share a profession. The high school sweethearts, who only discovered their calling after several years and some exploration, have found that marriage is an art equal to that of ceramics.  More

School layoffs YMCA teen center Fire station
An unprecedented crowd of parents and teachers peered through windows and sat on the floor to participate in the Saratoga Union School District's recent discussion of cost-cutting measures to meet anticipated budget shortfalls.  More Staff members at the Southwest YMCA are enlisting some young and creative designers to help design the new teen recreation center—students at Castro Middle School.  More The area next to the post office and sheriff's facility on Saratoga­Los Gatos Road and Saratoga Avenue will look a lot different this summer after the fire station gets a facelift and the Memorial Arch moves back to Blaney Plaza.  More

Memorial Day ceremony Aloha Avenue WVC-Mission layoffs
Sept. 11 hero Mark Bingham and U.S. war veterans will be honored this May 26 during the annual Memorial Day ceremony that begins in downtown Saratoga.  More The narrow intersection between Aloha Avenue and Saratoga­Los Gatos Road will be under scrutiny for the next couple of weeks as traffic engineers explore appropriate road improvement options to reduce the number of accidents in the area.  More In a move that they called a "leap of faith," officials of the West Valley­Mission Community College District voted to rescind the last of the 61 layoff notices that they had sent to full-time faculty in March.  More
