Church will host community event
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will be helping to raise awareness about preparing for emergencies when it hosts an open house on May 24 from 2 to 6 p.m. at 19100 Allendale Ave. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the resources that are available to the community in the event of an emergency.
Displays and literature from various organizations, including the Boy and Girl Scouts, the American Red Cross, the fire department and the sheriff's office, will be available. The building will be open at 11 a.m. for anybody interested in setting up displays for the public.

A national award for water district
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recognized the Santa Clara Valley Water District as a "Clean Water Partner for the 21st Century." The award marks the district's achievement in protecting the county's five major watersheds beyond federal requirements.
The water district has grown substantially in its responsibilities since it was first established in 1929. Its job was initially to catch and store rainfall to replenish severely depleted groundwater basins.
Foundation offers tours of buildings
The Saratoga Historical Foundation is inviting community members on a tour through the Saratoga Village, where over 24 significant historical sites stand. The tour, which lasts approximately one hour, is offered on the first Sunday of each month starting at 2 p.m. at the Saratoga Historical Foundation on SaratogaLos Gatos Road. Members of the foundation will be leading the group along Big Basin Way up to Sixth Street.
Collecting laptops for area seniors
The Los Gatos Senior Center and Los GatosMonte Sereno Emergency Operations Center are collecting used laptop computers to redistribute to senior citizens.
