Local schools hold grad ceremonies
Next week is graduation week for most schools in the area as the school year draws to a close. Redwood Middle School has its ceremony for eighth-graders at 4 p.m. on June 13 on campus. The high schools will also celebrate that week: Prospect High School fêtes its seniors on June 12 at 4 p.m. in the school's stadium; Westmont High on June 12 at 4:30 p.m. in the school stadium; and Saratoga High at 5 p.m. on June 12 on the football field.
Marshall Lane has first flea market
Marshall Lane Elementary School is holding its first flea market on Sunday, June 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the school. The event is to benefit educational programs that are sponsored by the school's PTA. The market will have a wealth of items for sale, including toys, athletic equipment, household goods, electronics and collectibles. Food will also be available at a bake sale. Marshall Lane Elementary is at 14114 Marilyn Lane, off Quito and Pollard roads.
Saratogans are on engineering team
Saratoga residents Ranjitha Kumar and Sanby Lee, students at The Harker School, are members of the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) varsity team, ranked number one in the nation after taking tests in engineering aptitude, mathematics and science. The eight-member team took a one-day exam at Stanford, and Harker was the only California school to place in the top three. Harker's junior varsity team, which includes Saratogans Greg Perkins and Pia Pal, placed first in the state and third in the nation.
UCSB has locals on winter dean's list
The winter quarter dean's list at UC-Santa Barbara includes three Saratoga residents: Ivan Tai-Wai Eng, a mechanical engineering major; Vincent Frederick Kispersky, a chemical engineering major; and Gail Melissa Swedroe, a religious studies student. Eng and Kispersky, enrolled in the school's college of engineering, earned grade point averages of at least 3.5. Swedroe earned more than a 3.75 average.
